Do not communicate when you are feeling angry or frustrated. When reacting from anger or frustration, we tend to not contribute to a constructive solution. Instead we tend to provoke anger with the other party. It is a good idea to think about your feelings or what you want to say first. Stay calm. And ask a neutral party to read your communication before sending it.
Use the best communication tool. We are living in a fast paced world. Maybe you are currently communicating with your landlord over WhatsApp? Think about whether this is the best communication tool, for example when there’s some trouble between you. Maybe a phone call or face-to-face conversation might be better.
Strive to a constructive and positive solution. A solution that feels justified and right for both parties.
Ask questions. Inform yourself.
Make arrangements. To make sure empty promises are not being made, it is best to make clear arrangements together. Who will do whatever and when? About what is the arrangement? Who will do it? Is there a date or time deadline? And what happens if arrangements are not being lived up to.
Take your responsibility. Are you noticing something? Make sure you make note of it in a good manner. This way, you won’t get frustrated yourself and things will not get out of hand.
